Expos Blanked by Seaver
The Montreal Expos manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the New York Mets. The Expos were overpowered by New York starter Tom Seaver, who hurled his club to victory, 9-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," <Gene Mauch:coach#15> said.
Over 9 innings, Seaver blanked Montreal on 7 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Seaver said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
To date Seaver is 7-2 in 9 starts with a 2.56 ERA and has 71 strikeouts in 70.1 innings.
