Segui Pitches Gem as Athletics Beat Baltimore, 2-0

Diego Segui of the Oakland Athletics was on top of his game.

The 32-year-old tantalized the Baltimore Orioles with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.

"He had the changeup working," Baltimore manager <Earl Weaver:coach#2> said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Oakland hurler had 2 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.

Segui told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

So far in 12 appearances this season, Segui has recorded 5 wins and sustained 3 losses. He has pitched 77.2 innings, yielded 57 hits, fanned 37 and has a 3.24 ERA.
