Evans Socks It to Pioneers, Cracks 5 Hits

It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Dwight Evans, it came around today.

The 18-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Dunn Field to pace the 21-6 Pawtucket Red Sox victory over the Elmira Pioneers.

Elmira skipper <Cody Block:coach#358> told reporters in the press room that "Evans deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Evans hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Dwight Evans singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Rafael Salazar in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and struck out in the 8th.

This year, Evans is hitting .329 with 1 home run.
