Player of the Week: Napier of the Foxes

Jim Napier must have thought he died and went to heaven this week. First he went on a remarkable batting rampage, hammering the ball at a .727 clip, then the Appleton catcher finds out he has been voted the league's top performer and gets the MIDW Player of the Week Award.

For the week Napier batted .727 (8-for-11) with 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

Big Day for Napier: Swats 5 Hits

Jim Napier was at the head of a Appleton hit parade at Commodores Fans Field. The left fielder went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Foxes to a nice 12-8 victory over the Decatur Commodores.

"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Napier told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."

Commodores skipper <Väinämö Karpinen:coach#551> said later that the club gave up "too much plate."

"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

Jim Napier singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Michael Wysocki in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.
