Injured Carey to Quit Game

Dan Carey of the DeLand Sun Caps has made it official: he will retire from baseball, effective immediately. Carey had sought a second opinion about a damaged elbow ligament. But it only confirmed the earlier diagnosis that put his career in jeopardy. "It made my mind up for me," Carey said. The 20-year-old expressed his gratitude to the organization for their patience during this ordeal. He also thanked the fans for their continuing support.

So far this season, Carey has a record of 7-4 with 109 strikeouts and 61 walks in 102 innings and a 3.09 ERA.
